The Zillertal Arena: 150 kilometres of piste fun - including the Höhenfresser Tour
Image gallery: Zillertal Arena Ski Region
The Zillertal Arena is one of Austria's largest ski resorts and encompasses, on the Tyrolean side, the villages of Zell am Ziller, Gerlos, and Hainzenberg, as well as Wald-Königsleiten and Hochkrimml in Salzburg's Pinzgau region. Four ski mountains are interconnected. The Rosenalm Cable Car takes you from Zell am Ziller up to the slopes, while in Gerlos, you can hop on the Dorfbahn. The Gerlossteinbahn in Hainzenberg opens up access to the Gerlosstein, one of the oldest ski areas here, now part of the Zillertal Arena. You can easily reach all lifts with the Zillertal Arena ski bus.
Particularly well-known is the valley run down to Zell am Ziller, nicknamed the "Höhenfresser Tour" due to its 1,930-metre vertical drop. Do you want to become an Arena Champion? This tour offers five SkiMovie stations, four speed checks, and five photo points. New is the Funty Slope at the Rosenalm Cable Car, thematically designed around Funty the Elephant. Snowboarders will find their ideal terrain at the Action-Park Kreuzwiese in Zell am Ziller (incidentally, this is also where the Shredschool freestyle workshops take place), the Gerlos Snow Park, and the Hochkrimml Park.
Down in the valley, the Arena Coaster Zillertal, a year-round toboggan run on rails, and the ice rink in the Zell am Ziller leisure park provide plenty of variety. As in the other Zillertal skiing areas of Spieljoch, Hochfügen-Hochzillertal, Mayrhofen, and the Zillertal 3000 Ski and Glacier World, the Zillertal Super Ski Pass is also valid in the Zillertal Arena Ski Region. In March, you can carve down the slopes before 7 am with Good Morning Skiing in the Zillertal Arena.
