Rofan Skiing Area - Achensee

Take off with the SkyGlider AirRofan in the sunny ski resort above Maurach am Achensee

The Rofan Ski Resort in Maurach is one of the three ski resorts on the shores of Lake Achensee, Tyrol's largest lake. In just five minutes, the Rofan Cable Car whisks you from the village centre up into the Rofan Mountains, also known as the Brandenberg Alps - more precisely, to the mountain station at 1,848 metres. From there, you can survey the eastern shore of Lake Achensee, with the western shore visible on the horizon, and the mighty Karwendel Mountains beyond.

From beginners to experts, everyone will find the perfect descent in this skiing area with its 11 kilometres of slopes. Most of the slopes are intermediate. The most challenging slope is the Rofan descent on the sunny side of the massif - the easiest is the Heimgruben descent. Children are well catered for in the Wasserboden practice area and the kids' club run by Bobo, the Achensee Ski School penguin. Three cosy mountain huts serving Tyrolean specialities await: the Erfurter Hütte, the Almstüberl, and the Rofan mountain inn. The Rofan mountain inn and the Almstüberl are also the destination of the ski tour that starts in Maurach am Achensee.

They also serve as the meeting point for the Wednesday evening ascent. Near the mountain station, you'll find the SkyGlider AirRofan, which offers - secured by a rope - a unique flying experience year-round. Other air sports enthusiasts can also be seen here in winter: The Rofan Mountains are considered a paradise for hang-gliders and paragliders.
