The Kellerjoch, the 2,344-metre-high local mountain of Schwaz in the Tux Alps, offers a ski resort in winter with views of the Tux Alps and the Karwendel Mountains. The Kellerjoch Cable Car and the Grafenast Lift transport you from Pillberg, above the town of Schwaz, to an altitude of 1,887 metres, where the groomed slopes begin. With the family run and the Grafenast Kinderland, the Kellerjoch Skiing Area is particularly family-friendly. Long queues are rare here.
For more adventurous skiing, there's the Waizer slope and the sports descent. The toboggan run is divided into several sections: One leads from the Hecherhaus at the top station to the Grafenast car park, and another down to Freundsberg Castle in Schwaz. This makes it one of the longest natural toboggan runs in Tyrol and Austria. You can easily reach the starting point by lift.
One evening a week, the Kellerjoch Skiing Area is open for ski touring. The Karwendel Silver Region also boasts several other lift facilities: the Burg Lift in Stans with its snow park, the Hüttegg Lift in Weerberg - an ideal practice area with a children's area -, the Schwanner Lift at the Schwanner country inn, also in Weerberg, and the Kolsassberg Lift.
