The Hochfügen and Hochzillertal-Kaltenbach Skiing Areas were connected several years ago by a lift-link, creating a large ski region in the heart of the Zillertal. It is accessibile from Kaltenbach, where the Hochzillertal Cable Car starts at the edge of the village, and from Hochfügen, a hotel village, where the "Zillertal Shuttle" lift facility is connected to the Wedel Express. This ski region is one of the 10 most snow sure skiing areas in the Alps, and one of Europe's best freeriding areas.
The Hochfügen Ski Region offers perfect conditions for ambitious skiers and those who simply love the pleasure of skiing, for families with children, for freeskiers and snowboarders. Among the 86 km of slopes and the 5 km ski routes there are also the Aschau Valley Run and the Kaltenbach Valley Run. The latter, called Stephan Eberharter Gold Slope, is illuminated and dedicated to the former World Cup alpine ski racer Stephan Eberharter. Also the racetrack at the Panorama Lift, used for training purposes and alpine ski races, the large beginners area and the Funny Slope are part of the offer. The place for kids is the Zwergerl Club, a kindergarten at the mountain station.
Snowboarders are drawn to the Betterpark Hochzillertal at the Snow Express lift facility. It offers areas for all levels and features its own ski lift. The Hochfügen Ski Region is technically connected to the Spieljochbahn Skiing Area in Fügen via a ski shuttle service. The Zillertal Super Ski Pass is valid in both areas, as well as in the other skiing areas of the Zillertal valley.
