Explore East Tyrol’s largest ski area, accessible from Matrei in Osttirol and Kals am Grossglockner

The Kals and Matreier Goldried Skiing Areas have formed the Grossglockner Resort for several years. They are connected via the 2,405-metre-high Cimaross peak. Deep-snow slopes and three valley runs attract winter sports enthusiasts. A particular highlight: the two black slopes at the Cimaross Lift. As the only ski resort in East Tyrol, the Grossglockner Resort Kals-Matrei offers three snow-covered valley runs, with the descent to Matrei having only recently been completed.
In total, almost 50 kilometres of slopes await, all of which can be completely covered with artificial snow. The lift facilities to the Goldried mountain station at 2,600 metres above sea level start in both Kals am Grossglockner and Matrei in Osttirol and are easily accessible by ski bus in the High Tauern National Park region. Once at the top, the Adlerhorst viewing platform, with its spectacular panoramic view of 60 peaks, and the cosy Adler Lounge restaurant invite you to linger.
For children, there's plenty to do in the Bobo Kinder Club at the mountain station, including a ski school area. Beginners are well catered for in Kals am Grossglockner: A large practice area awaits on a sunny meadow, and three ski schools are available for those first turns. The Grossglockner Resort is part of SKI)HIT Carinthia East Tyrol, along with the St. Jakob im Defereggental Ski Centre, the Sillian Ski Centre, and the Lienzer Bergbahnen Skiing Area, among others. Away from the slopes, the region also focuses on winter activities and offers opportunities for cross-country skiing, winter hiking and tobogganing on several sledge runs in the two villages.
