Gerlosberg at the entrance of the Gerlos Valley extends up to Mt. Kreuzjoch and down to the gorge of the Gerlosbach river. The farms in the municipal area hark back to the so-called "Schwaighöfe", self-sufficient farms, established from the 12th century on. The village was mentioned a century later. In former centuries, people digged for gold in Gerlosberg and in some neighbouring villages.
The holiday village is the perfect place, if you are seeking relaxation far away from hustle and bustle. It is surrounded by beautiful paths, such as the 1.5-hour hike along the Via Crucis of Gerlosberg, the 4 km long trail from Almhof to the Astachhof tavern at 1,320 m a.s.l., or the Delicacies' Path which leads to the Kreuzwiesen Mountain Hut. Along the trails you are going to notice some beautiful farms, which are accessible in part only via goods cable lifts or on foot.
The surrounding meadows are perfect for kite flying and model aircraft flying, furthermore the Almflieger flying element on Mt. Gerlosstein makes you experience the area from another perspective. In winter, there you can find the longest toboggan run of the Zillertal valley: It is 7 km long, illuminated until late in the evenings, and comfortably reachable by the Gerlosstein Cable Car. Furthermore, there's the large Zillertal Arena Ski Region waiting for you.
