A huge fire in 1942 fundamentally changed the village: Serfaus once has been a Rhaeto-Romance clustered village, whereas today the buildings are arranged loosely. Only in the western part of the municipality, the Rhaeto-Romance influence can still be seen - it is worth to take a walk there.
A dense network of cable cars take you into the world of the Tyrolean mountains, furthermore Serfaus offers its own Earth Pyramids, erosion phenomenons which rise above all in the places where Ice Age glaciers have deposited moraine slit in the valleys. Also for families there are two highlights, where kids have fun and parents may relax: the X-Trees Forest Rope Park Serfaus and, high above the village, the Hög Adventure Park with its reservoir pond and the mountain hut.
In winter, in the Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis Ski Region the three eponymous localities are connected by a total of 214 km of ski slopes. The offer includes a freeride area for snowboarders, slopes for carvers, and two permanent race tracks for those who would like to compete. To get from the village to the valley station of the lift facilities, you may use the U-Bahn Serfaus, already known as "the shortest underground worldwide". It is a 1,280 metres long free air cushion funicular which features some characteristics of an underground.
