Obergurgl-Hochgurgl

Obergurgl and Hochgurgl, both situated in the high-alpine Gurgler Tal valley, belong to the municipality of Sölden

Altitude: 1,930 - 2,150 m a.s.l.

Obergurgl-Hochgurgl is composed of the charming hamlet Obergurgl and the hotel settlement Hochgurgl. Located at 1,930 m a.s.l., Obergurgl is considered to be the highest located church village of Austria. Already in 1931 it became famous - by accident - due to an emergency landing of the Swiss scientist Auguste Piccard with his stratosphere balloon. Still today, a monument on the Gurgler Ferner glacier recalls this event: It is of course a popular hiking destination.

The hotel settlement Hochgurgl is located about 200 m higher, along the road to the Timmelsjoch mountain pass. If you have not been here before, you shouldn't miss a trip by mountain bike, motorcycle or convertible on this famous high alpine road. Many unforgettable moments are guaranteed! At the toll station, you may visit Europe's highest motorbike museum, and on the pass height the Pass Museum was realised. Then the road takes you down to South Tyrol in Italy...

In winter, the 3,082 m high Wurmkogel in the Obergurgl-Hochgurgl Skiing Area offers you an amazing view on the South Tyrolean and North Tyrolean mountains. Moreover, the ski resort has got some 112 km of ski slopes to offer. And in case one day you need a change, there is a indoor-golf course in Obergurgl, boasting a surface of about 700 sqm with a 200 sqm large Putting Green.
