The village of Nauders is located on a sunny plateau in the Oberinntal valley, between the Finstermünz Pass and the Resia Pass, and can look back on a long history. Already in Bronce Age, the Resia Pass had been crossed, and the first settlement had been built in Nauders. Its unique position inevitably recalls high mountain passes, majestic peaks and dizzying heights...
Two of the most popular hikes take you to the tri-border landmark below Mt. Piz Lad - where the Italian, Austrian and Swiss boarders coincide - and to the Goldseen Lakes on the Bergkastel. In the valley, however, you shouldn't miss a visit to the Altfinstermünz Fortress, a unique historical place. Deep down in the Finstermünz Gorge rises this old complex, which has been made accessible as "Historical World of Experience" featuring a new visitor centre made of steel and glass.
Motorcyclists will love the surrounding passes - such as the mighty Stelvio Pass, the Timmelsjoch and the Umbrail Pass - and panoramic roads such as the Kaunertal Glacier Road and the Silvretta High-Alpine Road. Also in winter, the position is highly beneficial: The local Bergkastel Skiing Area is part of the cross-border Two Country Skiarena, which features more than 200 km of slopes.
