On the alluvial cone of the Faggenbach river at the entrance to the Kaunertal there's the village of Faggen. The name has got Roman origins and means "village in an area of waters separated into several branches": It refers to the Faggenbach, which flew fan-shaped into the Inn river in the past. Today Faggen is a calm holiday resort which offers cycling and MTB tours for all levels of difficulty.
Here you are in the Nature Park Kaunergrat, a habitat of several threatened plant and animal species. The Nature Park House is located at the Piller Sattel pass and offers an interesting insight into the protected area. The nearby restaurant with coffee bar Gachenblick, however, awaits you afterwards with a breathtaking view on the Upper Inn Valley and the surrounding peaks. Several hikes start from the Piller Sattel, e.g. the Prehistoric Trails which take you to an ancient cult site.
In winter, Faggen and its surroundings present themselves from their best side: The family skiing area Ried-Prutz-Fendels and the majestic Kaunertal Glacier are only a few km away and form the Kaunertal Glacier - Fendels Skiing Area. Five toboggan runs and 12 beautiful cross-country ski trails complete the winter offer in this protected part of North Tyrol.
