Exactly where the valleys Drautal, Pustertal and Iseltal meet, there is the lovely main town of East Tyrol, Lienz. Its Mediterranean climate, numerous hiking possibilities and its good reputation as cultural meeting point and shopping centre make Lienz a popular holiday destination.
Those who are interested in culture might look forward to Lienz: On the castle hill rises Bruck Castle. But here it's not just about the Regional Museum Lienz and the Albin Egger-Lienz Collection, but also about bats: The castle park is known to host about 15 different species of them. Another castle can be found in the town centre: Liebburg Castle serves as town hall today, and provides in the Advent period the backdrop for the wonderful Lienz Christmas Market.
If you prefer outdoor activities, then you may choose between the Dolomitenbad Lienz with its outdoor and indoor pools and the sauna, the Drava Cycle Route, or the Climbing Park Schlossberg Lienz. The latter is known to be one of the best high-rope courses of Austria and can be perfectly combined with a ride on the Osttirodler, an all-year round toboggan run. In winter, however, the Lienzer Bergbahnen Skiing Area, which connects the two skiing areas on Mt. Hochstein and Mt. Zettersfeld, as well as the little Haiderhof Lift await you for some fun on the snow.
