The four component localities of Hinterbichl, Holz, Niederwängle and Winkl form the municipality of Wängle, one of the oldest settlements of the Ausserfern region. It is located in the west of Reutte at the foot of Mt. Hahnenkamm. As you can see on the municipal coat of arms, the patron saint of the village is St. Martin, to whom the local church with its beautiful frescoes is dedicated.
In the valley basin there are several Nordic Walking trails and promenades in a landscape with several lakes. Among them there are Lake Plansee, the second largest lake of Tyrol, and Lake Urisee at Reutte, which is a well-known destination for divers. Lake Frauensee, however, can be found in the nearby Lechschau and represents a hiking destination, equally popular as the mountain huts on Mt. Hahnenkamm high above the village. There you can visit the Gehrenalpe Refuge with its huge sun terrace, the Schneetal Mountain Hut and the cosy Cilly Hut.
To complete the offer, Wängle also features an asphalt and ice stock track, badminton, squash and table tennis facilities, a tennis court, a miniature golf course, a beach volley and football field, and the possibility to climb, to do archery and horse riding. In winter, Mt. Hahnenkamm invites you to ski fun on 16 km of slopes. The lift facilities start in Reutte, located only 3 km away.
