The market town of Reutte is located along the Lech river at the border to the Allgäu. Its name derives from "roden" which means "to stub" - the firs on the municipal coat of arms symbolise the abundance of forest of the region and the hills point to the landscape. A walk in the centre shows you the beautiful houses characterised by facade paintings by Johann Jakob Zeiller (1708 - 1783). One of them houses the interesting local museum with its precious collections of paintings.
In summer and in winter, the Reuttener Seilbahnen lift facilities take you to the popular Hahnenkamm. There, the Alpine Flower Garden with 550 different plant species awaits you. Slightly below, there's the Alpine Barefoot Hiking Trail, which includes 18 stations dedicated to sensory perception and agility. In winter, the area turns into the Erlebnisarena Hahnenkamm, a skiing area featuring 16 km of slopes, a toboggan hill and a cross-country ski track.
Also Ehrenberg is a oft-heard name in Reutte. It refers to the majestic complex of castles and ruins in the east of the town, featuring a nature exhibition and the adventure museum "On the Knights Trail". Some years ago, between two of the buildings the "highline179" was inaugurated, a suspension bridge which can be seen from the road below. However, also the Alpine Thermal Bath is called Ehrenberg: It offers some relaxing hours in the swimming pool and the sauna world.
