Gentle hills and majestic peaks surround the Thiersee Valley, which includes a territory ranging from 616 m to 1,986 m a.s.l. Until WWI, when the road from Kufstein to Thiersee was built, it was quite isolated. From 1946 to 1952, however, it was the centre of Austrian film production, as "Das doppelte Lottchen" (Lottie and Lisa) and "Blaubart" (Bluebeard) were shot here.
Directly at the lakeside there is the Tyrolean Passion Play locality Vorderthiersee. This is where you can enjoy comfortable Tyrolean ambience - likewise in Landl and Hinterthiersee in the Thiersee Valley, both located slightly higher. The beautiful mountains and woodlands as well as the alpine flora and fauna render this place a paradise for nature lovers and hikers alike. And afterwards, Lake Thiersee is the best place for a refreshing jump into the water.
A well-known hiking destination is the Ackernalm Mountain Hut with own dairy, which can be reached by foot from Landl. It was mentioned for the first time in the 12th century. From June to September, milk cows spend the summer here, and tasty butter and mountain cheese is produced from their milk. Also a toll road brings you to this beautiful mountain pasture at 1,350 m a.s.l. In winter, near Thiersee there are the Schneeberg Ski Lifts, taking you to a small skiing area.
