Between St. Ulrich am Pillersee and Fieberbrunn, there is the mountain village of St. Jakob in Haus. Several hamlets are part of the municipal area, including Moosbach and Mühlau. The name of the village derives from the local patron saint St. James, called Hl. Jakob in German language.
A very special destination in St. Jakob in Haus is the Pillersee Family World. This adventure park provides a lot of action, e.g. at the 1,000 sqm large indoor playground or on the "Big Bang" roller coaster. The facility features also a Death Sea Grotto, where you can enjoy a micro climate that normally only prevails at the seaside. For runners and Nordic Walkers, however, there's the Rot-Mühlau Trail, which starts and ends close to the local church.
Winter is a pleasant season, thanks to the Buchensteinwand Skiing Area, comprising the villages of St. Ulrich am Pillersee, St. Jakob in Haus and Hochfilzen, as well as the cross-country ski tracks and winter hiking trails. Furthermore, there is the 1.5 km long toboggan run St. Jakob in Haus, which stays illuminated till 11 pm. By the way: Christian Reithmann, watchmaker and founder of the four-stroke engine (which then failed in the patent quarrel with Nikolaus Otto), was born here in 1818.
