In former times, mining was an important branch in Oberndorf in Tirol: Up to the 18th century, at the Rerobichl hill copper was won, and still today stone processing is an important sector in the village. Furthermore, Oberndorf represents a quiet holiday resort in the Kitzbühel Alps.
The summer and winter outdoor offer is characterised by the surrounding mountains. The hiking trails on Mt. Kitzbüheler Horn reward you with a stunning 360 degrees view on the High Tauern, the Karwendel Mountains and the Wilder Kaiser mountain range. The latter is perfectly suited for challenging mountain tours which demand sure-footedness and a total absence of giddiness. The Bichlachbad, however, invites you to relax: The outdoor pool features a 55 m long water slide, water-spitting crocodiles and a playground, and is therefore a sought after destination for families.
In winter, the snow-sure northern pre-summit of the Kitzbüheler Horn turns into the St. Johann in Tirol Skiing Area, offering more than 40 km of slopes. This skiing area is also a paradise for snowboarders: It has been declared to be one of the greatest snowboard areas in Tyrol by the "Mystery Boarder". In the valley, however, there are five cross-country ski tracks and the natural toboggan run Oberndorf, which stays illumated till midnight. Nobody will get bored...
