Lake Tassenbach with its family-friendly nature educational trail is located in the vicinity of Strassen

Altitude: 1,098 m a.s.l.

Strassen in the Hochpustertal valley is composed of several hamlets. In one of them, Tassenbach, the street branches off via the Gailtal valley into the Lesachtal valley. The village features two churches: the Baroque Holy Trinity Church and the Gothic St. James Church with its beautiful frescoes by Leonhard von Scherhauff. Under a weeping willow on the opposite of the townhall, however, there is a Roman milestone dating back to 300 AD.

In summer, Lake Tassenbach is a popular destination with a family-friendly nature educational trail leading through the biotope. The reservoir represents one of the main resting points for migrating birds in the surroundings, here you can see about 150 bird species. Furthermore, the Drava Cycle Route leads past the village. It starts in San Candido in South Tyrol, Italy, 17 km away.

In winter, not far from Strassen there is the Sillian Hochpustertal Ski Center with its slopes: The Hochpustertaler Bergbahnen lift facilities take you on Mt. Thurntaler. If you prefer cross-country skiing or sledging, then the Hintenburg toboggan run or the Strassen and Strassener Möser cross-country ski tracks invite to some winter outdoor fun.
