Unterwalden, Dorf, Unterfelden, Versellerberg and Winkeltal - that's Ausservillgraten in the lower part of the Villgraten Valley. In this side valley of the Hochpustertal, time seemed to stand still up to the Sixties, when it had been opened up and equipped with modern infrastructure.
Some interesting building are worth to be mentioned, among them the two churches of the village: the St. Gertrude of Nivelles Parish Church and the St. Genevieve Chapel at the Bachlehen Farm. In the Winkeltal valley, however, rises the Wurzerhof, a unique ensemble composed of a chapel, a sawmill, a flour mill, a laundry hut and a forge. All of them are under monumental protection. The small museum at the farm is open once a week during the summer months.
Ausservillgraten has already been awarded for its environment, culture and apperarance of the townscape. Surrounded by the Tyrolean mountains and lush meadows, this scenery expects you with hiking areas such as Winkeltal-Volkzein and Mt. Thurntaler. The Thurntaler Tour is very popular in summer, before the Sillian Hochpustertal Ski Center opens there for the winter season. The above mentioned Winkeltal, however, offers the 1.6 km long Tilliachalmweg toboggan run.
