Anras extends far up, from the foothills of the Lienz Dolomites to the Villgraten Mountains, and from the Erlbach brook to the Kristeinerbach river. The three settlements - Asch-Winkl, Anras and Ried - are wide spread and mainly located on a sunny terrace and in the valley basin.
Already in ancient times, the Bishops of Bressanone recognised that this area is ideal for recreation and established a summer residence in Anras: Anras Castle, which was once also the court of the area. Until a few years ago, the impressive building housed a museum which made the magnificent rooms accessible by explaining the long history of the Hochpustertal area.
If you love active holiday, the quiet position of Anras is an ideal place for various walks, hikes and cycle tours. In winter, Mt. Thurntaler expects you with its Sillian Hochpustertal Ski Center, featuring more than 20 km of well-groomed slopes, whereas in the valley there is the 2.5 km long Kristeinertal track, known as "the sunniest cross-country ski track of East Tyrol".
