Already in 788 AD, Radfeld was mentioned for the first time as "Ratefelden", in 790 AD as "Ratfeld", which means "Field of Rato". Moreover, the name of the village reveals that German settlers came upon fertile fields in this area. In 1925, the first guest-house was inaugurated here, as before agriculture represented the main revenue stream.
Today, Radfeld directly borders on Rattenberg, the smallest town of Austria and known as "Glass Town of Tyrol" beyond borders. It is particularly popular with those who seek relaxation, as it offers numerous trails as well as the Inn Cycle Route - Tiroler Unterland which runs almost flatly between Innsbruck and Erl, famous for its Passion Plays. Also inlineskaters can be seen here.
In winter, the Ski Jewel Alpbachtal Wildschönau connects the Wildschönau Skiing Area and the Alpbachtal Skiing Area, providing not only 113 km of wonderful slopes but also three snow parks, three toboggan runs and the large network of cross-country ski trails of the Alpbachtal valley. Until a few years ago, at Radfeld there was the one and only skydiving base of Tyrol.
