Alpbach, mentioned for the first time in written documents in 1240 AD, has preserved its Tyrolean charm till today, not only because until the Twenties it was not connected to the Inn Valley, but also due to building regulations from 1953 which stipulated constructions in wooden style. This method turned to account, as the charming holiday resort has already been declared the "most beautiful village of Austria" as well as the "most beautiful flower village of Europe".
Another fact, however, made Alpbach famous far beyond borders: Every year, the "European Forum Alpbach" is held in its modern Congress Centrum, to which numerous personalities of distinction of politics, culture, economy and science are invited. Also Nobel Prize laureates take part in this event. Worth to be visited is also the Vorder-Unterberg Farm in Inneralpbach, which houses the Alpine Farmers' Museum aka "The Living Museum".
In summer, numerous trails and the adventure world "Lauserland" at the Wiedersbergerhorn mountain station at 1,850 m a.s.l. offer relax in the nature. The winter in Alpbach, however, stands for fun on the skis: The Ski Jewel Alpbachtal Wildschönau connects the skiing areas of the Alpbachtal valley and the Wildschönau, offering thus 113 km of slopes and three toboggan runs. Another special experience is a ride with the all-year toboggan run "Alpbachtaler Lauser-Sauser".
