The municipality of Wiesing along the road to Lake Achensee is composed of the three localities Wiesing, Erlach and Rofansiedlung. In the register of Salzburg it is annotated, that in 930 AD the widow and nun Himmeltrud conferred her properties to the bishop Odalbert of Salzburg in a deed of donation. This is actually considered to be the date of the founding of Wiesing.
Beda Weber, the founder of Tyrolean local history, described Wiesing already in 1837 as "a lovely little village located in the fertil and cosy green of the Lower Inn Valley landscape", and this particular charm is still perceivable today. In summer, a panoramic road leads to Lake Achensee, only 8 km away. An absolute must-do is a stop at the "Kanzlerkehre" turn to enjoy the great view on the Inn Valley. If you prefer the bicycle, then the Achensee Cycle Route takes you to the lake.
Also in winter Wiesing is a cosy place to be: The 3 km long toboggan run Wiesing Breitlahn and the 3 km long cross-country ski trail Buchbergl make you enjoy winter sports. Thanks to its location between the entrance of the Zillertal valley and the road to Lake Achensee, you can choose from a wide variety of offers regarding winter sports and leisure time activities. Moreover at Wiesing there is the Astenberg T-bar lift, which is perfect for making the first passes on the skis.
