Tyrol, the Country of the Mountains, this is an apt description of this area in Austria
Image gallery: Tyrol
The districts North and East Tyrol are located in Austria, but from a geographical point of view, they are not directly connected. The Drau river runs through the distinctively smaller East Tyrol. The High Tauern do not only define the northern border of the district, but also characterise the scenery. North Tyrol, however, is traversed by the Inn river which also runs through Innsbruck, and is dominated by mountain massifs like the Oetztal Alps and the Silvretta Alps.
