Our winter hike through the Axams Valley leads us from Axams to the Schafalm Hut in the Axamer Lizum skiing area

Starting in Axams, we follow the road towards Axamer Lizum. At the entrance of the Axams Valley, the valley path (Talweg) to the Schafalm Mountain Hut branches off on the bank of the stream. It is a forest path which first proceeds on the west bank and later on the east bank of the stream. A dense forest surrounds the valley, the higher we climb, the thicker becomes the snow cover on the floor and the trees. Shortly before we reach the valley station of the Axamer Lizum Skiing Area, we pass a crossroads and follow the path to the Schafalm hut (1,568 m a.s.l.).
We cross a bridge and on the west bank of the stream again we walk further to the mountain hut where the sledge runs are crossing. After our deserved lunch we walk down to the valley station of the Axamer Lizum skiing area and from there we take the sledge run which follows the Talweg path down into the valley. Of course the funniest way is to return by sledge!
