Use the power of wind to surf over the waters: Lakes such as the Achensee, the “Sea of Tyrol”, make it possible
Starting from June, kite and wind surfers meet at Lake Achensee, where the conditions for surfing are perfect. Located between the Karwendel Mountains and the Brandenberg Alps, it is characterised by a "thermic wall", a strong breeze coming from north around 2 pm. Surfers and sailors call it the "Bavarian breeze". Directly at the lakeside there are numerous surf and sailing clubs, which do not only offer equipment for rental, but also organise regattas on a regular basis.
Moreover you can also kite and surf in the artificial lake Durlassboden, located at 1,400 m a.s.l. above Gerlos in the Zillertal valley. By the way: This is also where you can find the highest located surf and sailing school of Austria. Enjoy the idyll of Tyrolean mountain lakes and... hang loose!
