Short summit tour and circular hike on the panoramic mountain above the Inntal valley near Landeck
Image gallery: Hike to the Glanderspitze peak
The Venet is a special mountain range: All alone it is located at the intersection between the Inntal, Pitztal and Kaunertal valleys. This position makes it an ideal panoramic mountain with views from the Northern Limestone Alps to the Verwall Group, the Silvretta and the Ötztal Alps. And thanks to the Venet Cable Car it's easy to climb. From the mountain station on the Krahberg there are less than 500 metres in altitude up to the Glanderspitze, the main summit of the Venet. The mountain station of the cable car from Zams is located at more than 2,200 m a.s.l.
From there we walk on the path no. 11 - also part of the European Long-Distance Way E5 - towards east to the Glanderspitze peak (signpost "Venet"). The treeless landscape on the ridge is a green heath with the typical poor grassland meadows of the alpine high mountains. Only the last ascent up to the summit cross is rockier and steeper. Arrived on the top we enjoy a fantastic almost 360 degrees view. From here you could walk to the neighbouring Kreuzjoch ridge and descend via the Venet Mountain Hut to the Galflun Mountain Hut or decide to take the smaller route along the paths 6 and 6B (towards the Gogles Mountain Hut), what we do. The path no. 6 steeply descends (attention: danger of slipping!) until it meets the path no. 6B. Here you can make a detour to the Gogles Mountain Hut (rest point), or walk directly back to the mountain station of the Krahberg Cable Car. The whole circular walk can be done in less than 3 hours (pure walking time).
