At Pettneu on the Arlberg, at the entrance to the Malfontal valley, the parking space is located, where our hike starts. We follow the forest road through the Malfontal valley (no. 511). About 90 minutes later, after 3.5 km, we reach the Malfon Mountain Hut at 1,690 m a.s.l., the first stage of our tour. We follow the forest road for about one km into the valley until we reach the turn-off to the Edmund Graf Mountain Hut (Edmund-Graf-Hütte) before the Upper Malfon Hut.
Here we leave the wide path behind us and follow the narrow trail through the Jakobstal valley, which ascends steeply. The last 570 m of altitude difference are covered here on a 2 km stretch, which takes a little more than one hour. At the top, on the Kappler Boden, the mountain hut of the Innsbruck Alpine Club is located, named after the mountaineer Edmund Graf, with a breathtaking view on the mountain peaks of the Verwall Group. The descent follows the same route.
