A roaring water gorge, a monastery church on the rock and an enchanting forest chapel - our circular hike in the area of Stans in the Inn Valley is full of surprises

Our hike starts at the Wolfsklamm parking space (chargeable) in the upper part of Stans. On the banks of the Stanserbach stream we walk down into the valley and reach a tollbooth. Entering the gorge costs only a few Euros, which are needed for maintenance. Our route leaves the drive way, a trail leads us to the wooden bridges and stairs through the narrow gorge of the Wolf Gorge. The gorge path is about 1 km long and proceeds through an impressive, wild natural landscape. Out of the gorge the path becomes wider and we follow the signpost to St. Georgenberg. Over the impressive Hohe Brücke (High Bridge) we reach the rock on which the ensemble of the Lindenkirche, the open altar and the baroque abbey church of St. Georgenberg is located.
Originally a hermitage, St. Georgenberg, which belongs to the Fiecht Monastery, has become a well-known pilgrimage site. Mentioned in documents already in 950 AD, it is considered the oldest monastery of Tyrol. On our way back, we take the road to Maria Tax just after the Hohe Brücke. First we walk on a nice path, later we take a quite steep forest path downhill. The little chapel of the Maria Tax Hermitage was built in the 17th century and recently restored. From here we continue a little further down to Stans, where we reach the starting point of our hike again.
