This easy walking tour in the Stillupgrund, a side valley of the Zillertal, leads from the Stillup Reservoir to the well-known mountain hut below the Zillertal Main Ridge in the Zillertal Alps Nature Park

Starting point of this walking tour is the Wasserfall (Waterfall) tavern at the Stillup Reservoir, reachable by car via a toll road or by bus taxi from Mayrhofen. At the Stillup Reservoir we walk into the valley on the path which runs parallel to the asphalted valley road and bypasses its tunnels. Arrived at the south-eastern shore of the lake, we continue on the valley road (no. 515). After a short ascent we reach the Stilluphaus tavern. Past the Waldalm, the Birbergaste and the Schindhütte Mountain Huts we walk further into the valley. The path is getting steeper and steeper and the landscape is showing itself more and more from its wild side.
After a little more than 2 hours we reach the Grüne Wand Mountain Hut with view on the same-named mountain of the Zillertal Main Ridge, which forms the end of the valley and the border to the Valle Aurina valley in South Tyrol. Here, in the area of the Taxach Mountain Hut, numerous watercourses flow down from the glaciated mountains and unite to the Stillupbach brook. The waterfalls and the entire landscape are a real jewel in the Zillertal Alps Nature Park. For our way back we take the same route later. Alternatively, you can take the bus taxi, which connects the Grüne Wand Mountain Hut with the Wasserfall tavern and Mayrhofen.
