From the village of Galtür a road leads into the Jamtal valley. Right in the lower part of the valley, at the Menta Mountain Hut (Menta Alm, rest point), a small car park is located which is the starting point of our valley hike. We follow the asphalt road until the bridge over the Jambach brook. Here a gravel path towards the Schnapfen Alp branches off to the left. We follow this path to the mountain hut (rest point). It continues as a hiking trail through the green valley. In this part of the valley, the slopes are still densely wooded, while the valley floor is covered with alpine meadows, heath and gravel bars. On the opposite side of the valley, the Scheiben Alp is located, another possible rest stop in the Jamtal valley.
To reach it, however, you have to follow the path to the western side of the valley and cross the bridge over the Jambach brook. The Scheiben Alp marks about half of the way. You can walk through the valley either on the path on the east side or on the asphalted mountain road on the west side. After about 2.5 hours both paths meet again and we have to master the last section uphill to the Jamtalhütte hut. It is located at the feet of the mighty glaciers between the Dreiländerspitze, Jamspitzen and Augustenköpfen mountains. From all sides waterfalls plunge into the valley. After a stop at the Jamtal Mountain Hut and enjoying the fantastic view on the wild high alpine world at the head of the valley, we return to our starting point on the same way.
