Starting in Kirchberg, we follow the signpost of the MTB route no. 204 (Unterer Grund). Along the Aschauer Ache river the asphalt and gravel path leads to Aschau, and further through the Untere Grund valley, past the Kloo Mountain Hut, to the junction at the Rakstatt Mountain Hut (1,290 m a.s.l.). Up to here we have managed 460 m in altitude on a 12.5 km stretch, the gentle ascent had become a little steeper from Aschau on. Now we change the driving direction and turn onto the Aschau High Route (no. 205), it is an almost flat (with a few short climbs) 6.5 km long section to the junction before the Hieslegg Mountain Hut (1,450 m a.s.l.) towards north.
There we turn into the forest path Usterkar, part of the Pengelstein Route (no. 285). Now the trail climbs steeply (12% gradient) up to the Gauxer Mountain Hut and to the Hieslegg mountain station at 1,900 m a.s.l. After almost 4 hours we have now reached the final altitude, and on an almost flat section we reach the Pengelstein Restaurant, where we take a break. Via the MTB route no. 232 we continue to the Jufenkamm ridge, the Ehrenbachhöhe and the Hahnenkamm tavern, where the beautiful downhill ride to Kitzbühel starts. Arrived in the town, we cycle back to Kirchberg on the cycle path. We have chosen Kirchberg as the starting point, but Kitzbühel is equally suitable.
