Near Tristach there is a lake called Tristacher See - the Dolomites of Lienz frame the lake and make the scenery especially impressive. It is fed by two natural tributaries. Lake Tristach is a popular leisure time destination, both with adults and kids, above all in summer months, and a bathing lake with bathing establishment, lawn for sunbathing, playground and trail around the lake.
In a short walk, you can also reach the "Alter See" (Old Lake) biotope with its botanic trail. The beautiful Tristacher See has a long history, in fact it was already mentioned in the Tyrolean Fishing Book of Emperor Maximilian in the 16th century.
Today, you can access it from the village of Tristach and park at the parking space Seewiese, subject to charge in high season, or choose the means of public transport: The shuttle busses are free, furthermore there are two bus lines operating in high summer between the town of Lienz and the lake. When winter draws in, the lake freezes, transforming into an ice skating ground.
