The Plansee is connected with nearby Lake Heiterwang via a 300 m long canal and is fed by several brooks. It is characterised by outstanding water quality - Lake Plansee and Lake Heiterwang are both used for generating electricity by the Reutte Power Station.
The lake is really popular with joggers, nordic walkers, hikers, cyclists and minigolfers, furthermore there's a freely accessible bathing spot on its shores. On the water you can see rowboats, sailing boats, and passenger ships are circulating. Nestled in the heart of the Lechtal Alps, the Wetterstein Mountains and the Mieming Range, the Plansee is also a great starting point for mountain tours.
The water quality of Level I makes a reach of vision of 15 metres possible and enables divers to perfectly explore the world under the water surface. What is also popular is fishing, as there are whitefish, chars, rainbow trouts, European perches and many more fish species in the lake.
