Zugspitz Adventure Museum

At the summit of the almost 3,000 m high Mt. Zugspitze, the interesting experiential world “Fascination Zugspitze” is located

In Ehrwald, the Tyrolean Zugspitz Cable Car starts to the top of Mt. Zugspitze, the highest peak of Germany (2,962 m a.s.l.). Built in 1926, it was the first cable car of Tyrol - today, the modern lift facility can transport up to 1,000 passengers simultaneously. At the top, a gorgeous panoramic view on four countries and the Zugspitz Adventure Museum at the mountain station awaits you. As a complement, at the valley station there's the "BAHNORAMA anno 1926" Cable Car Museum.

The permanent exhibition "Fascination Zugspitze" of the interactive museum (Zugspitz Erlebnismuseum) tells about the history of the mountain, the construction of the first cable car of Tyrol, and about actual events. Its high glass front offers a fantastic view on the surrounding alpine world. The highlights of the Zugspitz Adventure Museum are a glass floor which allows an impressive look into the depth, and the highest located 3D show of Europe. The exhibition is structured in four sections: "Conquest of Mt. Zugspitze", "Views", "Sensory Visions" and "Farewell to the mountain". Right next to it there is the Snow Crystal World which is freely accessible.

By the way, its first ascent dates back more than two centuries. It was on August 27, 1820, when Josef Naus reached the top for the first time, although a historical map from 1770 AD indicates that Mt. Zugspitze was already scaled in the first half of the 18th century. On the occasion of the official 200-year jubilee, the special exhibition "First Ascent" was inaugurated: It shows the diary of Josef Naus and the mentioned historical map as well as 3D exhibition modules and 3D holograms.
