Designed to maximize length and toughness, the 5th KAT100 by UTMB® is an ultra-marathon of 100 miles in length in the Kitzbühel Alps of Tirol. The endurance run race includes a nasty 10,000-meter climb.
Now in its fifth year, this ultra-marathon is 100ish miles (173.2 kilometers) with roughly 10,000 meters of elevation change. Taking place on August 01, 2024, in Fieberbrunn, Pillerseetal Valley, KAT100 by UTMB® is the longest trail running race in Austria. The hardy participants who finish the 100 Miles deserve mad respect as it is a tough race! KAT100 is an approved ITRA race with 4 qualifying points (“Running Stones”) for the renowned “Ultra Trail Du Mont Blanc” (UTMB). The course is not only meant to be hard. It is also meant to be beautiful. The Kitzbühel Alps have some fantastic views and the racecourse past Wildseeloder, Hochfilzen, Waidring, St. Johann, Kitzbühel Horn, Streif and Jochberg gives a unique perspective from surrounding Wilder Kaiser and Hohe Tauern mountain ranges that few get to experience. The race revolves around the theme of “Next Step to Heaven”.
The racecourse was designed by trail run expert Thomas Bosnjak. In addition to the “100 Miles” four other races are offered for those looking for a lesser challenge in the 2024 edition of the event: The “Marathon Trail” (48.2K, 3,220 vertical meters); the “Speed Trail” (24.2K, 1,640 vertical meters); the “Endurance Trail” (81.4K, 4,860 vertical meters) as well as the “Easy Trail” (8K, 243 vertical meters). Moreover, there’s the “Kids Trail” with three courses (between 500 and 1,500 meters in length). All races begin and end at the village center of Fieberbrunn.
