Kundl with its component localities Liesfeld, Saulueg and St. Leonhard extends on a debris cone of the Wildschönauer Ache river. In the 15th and 16th century, copper and silver were exploited here, today the tractor plant Lindner and the pharmaceutical company Novartis have its seat resp. a seat at Kundl. Also the International Youth Film Festival of Tyrol has been held here three times.
The Kundl Gorge is one of the most popular destinations: It takes you along the Wildschönauer Ache river in the direction of Wildschönau. Restoration works made this natural jewel accessible also for wheelchairs and prams, you can walk it within about 2 hours. And if you are looking for a special souvenir, you can pick up a stone at the riverbank and take it to the only stone turning plant all over Tyrol - the Stein-Zeit Sandbichler - transforming your stone into jewellery.
In winter, the Ski Jewel Alpbachtal Wildschönau with its 113 km of ski slopes - the connection of the Alpbachtal and Wildschönau Skiing Areas - is within easy reach. To complete the offer, in the village itself there are the Ice Arena Kundl with skate rental and the 1.7 km long toboggan run Kragenalm. For your creature comforts, there are several taverns providing variety for your palate with local delicacies such as Schlutzkrapfen, dumplings, Tiroler Gröstl or Kasspatzln with melted cheese.
