Wattens

Altitude: 564 m a.s.l.

The market town Wattens in the Inn Valley extends into the Wattental valley, which was settled already in pre-Roman times. Its coat of arms shows two symbols: The globus cruciger was the watermark of the ancient paper mill, and the silver stone reminds on the importance of the crystal industry for the village, which caused a huge economic boost in the 20th century.

It was at the end of the 19th century, when the glass cutter Daniel Swarovski of Bohemia settled down here and founded the crystal company Swarovski. In 1995, on the occasion of the centenary anniversary, the Swaroski Crystal Worlds were opened. Maybe you know the giant that decorates the entry of the Crystal Worlds, a work by the Austrian artist Andrè Heller?! Furthermore you can find two museums in the town: the Typewriter Museum featuring more than 500 properly functioning model typewriters, as well as the Local Museum with its "Chamber of Wonders".

If you prefer more active holidays, you can keep fit on the famous Path of St. James and the 413 km long Eagle Trail, snaking its way to St. Anton am Arlberg. Down in the valley, the Inn Cycle Route leads to Innsbruck or - in the other direction - to Erl, where it joins the Bavarian Inn Cycle Route. In winter, a sledge run on the toboggan runs Mölstal and Vögelsberg is in the program.
