Close to the border of the Vorarlberg, at the head of the Paznauntal valley, there is the holiday resort of Galtür. Its name derives from the word "cultura", which is a term that reminds on the cultivation work of people from the Swiss Engadin. Once upon a time, the village was a pilgrimage site - it started booming afterwards, when the first mountaineers came to explore this valley.
Due to its altitude, Galtür is above all recommendable to people who suffer from pollen allergies and asthma. Since 1997, it has been the 1st official climatic spa of Tyrol. It really seems to be a fairytale-like scenery when you look at the Silvretta Alps with its 74 three-thousanders behind the village. The Silvretta Alpine Road leads you into the heart of this mountain world, where the Silvapark fixed-rope route has been established at an altitude between 2,250 and 2,600 m a.s.l.
In the village itself, the Alpinarium Galtür tells about the day - more than two decades ago - in which an avalanche tragedy destroyed part of Galtür. This adventure museum with its coffee bar and the climbing wall is part of the avalanche safety wall. During the winter months, at 2,300 m a.s.l. there is the Silvapark Galtür Skiing Area with the Heroes' Area for boarders and freeriders. If you like sledging, however, Galtür offers a toboggan hill for kids and the Silvrettasee toboggan run.
