In 1888, the Tyrolean Trades Association decided to establish a Trade Museum in Innsbruck. In the course of time, the collection has been expanded and passed on to the Tyrolean Chamber of Trade and Industry, and later on to the Regional Authority. Finally, in 1929 the Museum of Tyrolean Regional Heritage was inaugurated. The exhibits have been collected within Old Tyrol, which included the today's Province of Trento and the Ladin valleys of the Dolomites.
The focus has been set on arts and crafts and the applied arts, home industries, masks and traditional dresses of Tyrol. The exhibits derive from different social strata, furthermore there are reproductions of farmhouses as well as Medieval parlours. The offer is completed by special exhibitions, e.g. a Tyrolean crib exhibition in Christmas time.
Since the refurbishments some years ago, the Museum of Tyrolean Regional Heritage (Tiroler Volkskunstmuseum), one of the 5 Tyrolean State Museums, introduces "Luzifer", who tries to get to the bottom of things. What is reality? What only seems to be? Accompany him on a journey!
